Castlemaine is in the Shire of Mount Alexander and is situated approximately 75 miles or 120 Km from Melbourne the Capital City of the State of Victoria in Australia. The Town has a population of 8000 and started its life in 1851, serving the gold fields of the Mt.Alexander diggings. It has grown from the original tent city, and today is servicing agriculture and local industry. The town continues to grow, and a fast and reliable train service has encouraged more and more people to move to Castlemaine and commute to Melbourne when required.

Castlemaine has become famous for its biennial Arts Festival and Garden Festival. It is surrounded by beautiful bush and rolling hills. The region is steeped in history, but has a community firmly in the present and looking towards the future.
