Outline of Course
We will listen to full operas selected from those being performed in Melbourne in 2010. After hearing the complete work there will be a discussion and then comparisons of highlights from other performances that participants might have brought to the session. Copies of the words sung and the English translation will be provided.

People content to listen in silence to a complete work.

OPERA

An on-going class in which participants enjoy listening to extracts from Opera and be informed by brief explanations of the lives and idiosyncrasies of the composers and the performers. Possible visits to see a live performance.

REQUIEM

This year we will continue with Requiem but will listen also to other liturgically related choral works. We listen to whole works of 30 to 70 minutes duration. Comparisons are made with other performances of the work if we have them. Copies of words sung and their English translation are provided.

SINGING TOGETHER

Outline of Course
For people who enjoy singing in a group. The aim is enjoyment, not necessarily to read music. The choice of songs will be those with which everyone can feel happy. Singing will include rounds, unison and part songs.
